Virginia loses heartbreaker to Virginia Tech in front of record crowd

Dear Friends,

What an amazing event yesterday! I am so thankful that we have an administration that supports the student athletes the way that they do. Trust me when I say, a lot of work went into running this event in the John Paul Jones arena. That hard word paid off however, as this was one of the most exciting athletic events I think you are likely to experience. The match came down to heavyweight and during that match I couldn't hear myself think it was so loud in the arena. My wife said that she was shaking it was so intense. Thank you all for being there, for your continued support and for being so rowdy yesterday. My guys felt your passion and appreciated how hard you were pulling for them.

I won't go into my usual match by match breakdown (we had so much coverage at this event I think it would be easier for you all to check out any of the links below, I have copied the NBC news highlights, written release and also copied videos of ALL the matches from the dual meet) but I can tell you that every match was a battle. I am so proud of the effort my team put forth but by no means am I satisfied with losing. Our kids know that our goal was to win that dual and they are eager to learn from this match and make the adjustments necessary to beat that team (as we've done in the past) in March. We were in position to do so, but in the end we couldn't quite finish it off. I will say though that each year we continue to evolve as a program and yesterday was a big day in our development as wrestlers and as men.

So blessed to be a part of Virginia wrestling!!
